Lupin the 3rd (1971)

Farewell My Beloved Witch - S1-E3

Stupidity: Lupin gets to the submarine diving from the plane Jigen is piloting. At the end of the episode Jigen is with him on the raft, with no mention of how and why he ended up like that. (00:22:50)

Lupin the 3rd (1971)

Is Lupin Burning... ?! - S1-E1

Stupidity: Despite the fact that there are 100 (literally) cameras around the racing circuit and (again literally) everyone from the staff to the fellow racers works for the Scorpion gang, Jigen and Lupin's switch can happen without anyone noticing, even if it involved racing side by side for a lengthy period of time.

Shinryakusha o ute - S1-E3

Stupidity: Arashi tells Hoshino through his radio to call the HQ, but as shown several times throughout the show, his radio is perfectly able to do that directly himself. Even in this very episode later Hayata uses the standard issue radio to let the HQ hear the alien's requests. (00:07:20)

Stupidity: Poirot addresses the person in the shadow outside the hotel as "dear sir or madam", which would make sense given the clothes, but makes no sense with the fact that voice is definitely a male voice, there's no mystery at all there. (01:11:50)

Castle (2009)

Nanny McDead - S1-E2

Stupidity: Mrs. Peterson tells the cops in the first interview that the phone went 'straight to voicemail', which would happen if the phone was off, and it's not the case. There's no reason why she'd lie about this particular fact. Which ties into the larger problem that the cops are looking for the missing phone but nobody tried to call it nor the phone company told them it was still on, or the plot wouldn't work.

House of Gucci (2021)

Stupidity: Patrizia Reggiani is no rocket scientist in this movie, but it's quite bizarre that calling the fortune-teller she sees on TV, with her name written in giant letters in two different spots on screen, she asks her "What's your name?" It makes sense for the international audience who may not recognize the word "Pina" as a name, but an Italian wouldn't have any doubt. (00:41:05)

Ghostbusters (1984)

Stupidity: It's mostly a fun absurdity, but it is somewhat contradictory to showcase the Ghostbusters being featured as the cover story of every major publication and news outlet, and yet to get help not only they put an ad on the newspaper, but a single person applies for the job (which is all it took for them to accept).

Inspector Kenmochi the Murderer File 2 - S1-E20

Stupidity: Kindaichi has to talk to the lawyer of the case from three years back to learn about the gruesome details of the torture on Marina. However, those would be in possession of the police as well, and he has their full cooperation. (00:11:20)

Scream 3 (2000)

Stupidity: Scream is always considered a parody of the genre; many deaths are grounded in reality, but the one at Jennifer's house it just isn't, since for that to happen the killer needed to know that one of the guests he scared out of the house would have to go inside the kitchen (a different room, further inside) to look at the remaining page, be unaware of the gas and light something to see it, instead of bringing it outside or using a portable flashlight like it happened earlier. None of that was predictable.

Scream 3 (2000)

Stupidity: The killer manages to surprise Stone talking to him on the phone in the middle of the night without Stone managing to hear him; he was outside the trailer with the open door. (00:42:00)

Scream 2 (1997)

Stupidity: The campus is on lockdown, police has been roaming the premises, but the killer can just turn on the lights of theater building, turn up the speakers, and nobody except the main characters shows up for it.

Young Kidaichi's Murder: File 2 - S2-E2

Stupidity: When Akechi tells his men to look for Kindaichi in all the possible places where a person might hide, Kindaichi with his bright yellow shirt is behind a metal staircase 2 meters away from him - a metal staircase with gaps between the steps, and some of the policemen are facing him. (00:20:15)

Young Kidaichi's Murder: File 1 - S2-E1

Stupidity: Kindaichi behaves in a criminally illogical way in this fourth parter episode. The original victim told 4 separate people some sort of keyword for the party, each one linking to another person. Kindaichi after at least the second if not the first victim could and should have asked EVERYONE (he had every opportunity for that) if they received such a 'password' by Tachibana before he died. Instead, he pointlessly follows the trail of breadcrumbs and two if not three people die for nothing.

Scream 2 (1997)

Stupidity: When the Jada Pinkett and her boyfriend are outside the theater, they are part of a long line. They get their tickets at 9:50, but when they enter the movie, which is in a one-night only sneak preview event, is already running. The event in general is completely absurd especially for a premiere, since everyone in the audience acts like savages (but they shut up Maureen the moment she says something). It is also a movie based on a gruesome tragedy with real people killed barely a couple years before, where they hand stabby props.

Death on the Nile (1978)

Stupidity: In the original novel, the attempt on Mrs. Doyle at the temples was made rolling a boulder off a cliff. In this adaptation, the culprit is said to 'dislodge' a large stone from the temple; you can however see that the stone is already dislodged and sticks out from its place on the pillar, and he had no way to know that the Doyles would be in that particular spot, making this attempt to Linnet's life rather nonsensical (requiring also herculean strength, no pun intended). Scream (1996)

Stupidity: Dewey and Sidney jumpscare each other at the front door. There's just no possible logical reason for a deputy (or ANYONE) to be holding the mask the way Dewey is in the scene. If he were leaning against the door, he would have lost his balance or reacted in any way to the door shifting. (00:30:30)

Suggested correction: Perhaps he was going to knock on the door with the mask. And Dewey didn't call out for Sidney.

lionhead

I am not sure who would almost-but-not-quite knock with his hand wrapped in a mask and holding perfectly still keeping the pose, facing the opposite direction. It's a pose completely unnatural especially looking frozen and not in the middle of something else. (I amended the part about calling out, it was wrongly phrased since I wanted to say the exact opposite, thanks!).

Sammo

He was about to knock on the door and was then looking behind him, probably heard a noise. He ain't the most solid type either.

lionhead

I personally think this is a good stupidity entry. The stupidity section exists for stuff that isn't technically mistakes, but is still irksome or just silly. And this fits that. It's good for a quick jump scare, but doesn't really add up. It's a piece of evidence, so he probably wouldn't be touching it anyways, the way he's holding it is completely unnatural (nobody holds a mask they just picked up off the ground like that), and it's conveniently held at exactly the right height and position to be in Sidney's face when she opens the door. The movie was flying in the face of basic logic to manufacture a quick scare. And it's effective in context... but it doesn't really make sense if you dissect the scene.

Scream 2 (1997)

Stupidity: Gale and Dewey review Joel's footage. Joel is technically a professional cameraman working for a local network affiliate. Inexperienced, but he's still working with a professional camera, he has his own van...and yet the footage the two are watching is of poor quality; it would have been unusable for the TV station. The killer's footage, shot with inferior equipment and under more trying circumstances, is the same quality if not better. (01:17:00)

Eternals (2021)

Stupidity: When Thena suffers from her first spell of Mahd WY'ry, Ajak knows what it is and flat out tells her that they have the technology on the ship to wipe her memory off to start over. Somehow none of them asks themselves any question about any of this. They all think that this mission was their first mission, but for the plot to work everyone in those boring 6500 years together must have never talked to each other about their past - Sersi accepts instantly the fact that her home planet doesn't exist, so she doesn't seem to have any strong recollection about it. And nobody ever inquires Thena about those memories of other planets ending up in disasters.

Eternals (2021)

Stupidity: Phastus' partner learns with astonishment about the giant-shaped rock in the Indian Ocean from the TV and asks "You guys did that?" He must have lived under a rock to be asking that in a scene that takes place two weeks after the events and without a doubt has been all over the news ever since. (02:16:45)
