At the Phone Store, Chad told Lynn and Zoe they were in the "dead zone." When Lynn answered Spencer's call by putting her head out the upstairs window, she said, "The service is great up here." Revealing mistake: The "bridge" within the crime scene tape is obviously a prop. It should be a continuation of the road, but it is tilted to the left and is more vertical (around 45°). The bridge isn't even very high. When Byron and others go under the bridge to look at the dead girl, there is only a few feet above their heads (clearance under the bridge). (00:04:54)
Factual error: The initial police scene takes pace 20 years ago. The present year is 2021, so 20 years prior would've made it 2001. The police Chevrolet Tahoe at the opening scene of the film was only made from 2007 and up. (00:05:40)
Factual error: The New Jersey license plate (L928 : 68FT) did not have the proper format (too many numbers/letters and wrong color). NJ standard plates have a letter followed by two numbers, an emblem, then three letters. NJ plates are yellow/gold reflective at the top, fading to white at the bottom; the Jeep's plate was all white (although the plate holder was buff colored at the top and covered up "New Jersey"). Revealing mistake: After Charlie talks to Emma in Francine's old bedroom and is standing in the doorway, the background (segment of the hallway) is obviously fake. Revealing mistake: There's no doubt that Joey and his mother were not real kangaroos, but there wasn't even an attempt to make them look at least semi-real with animatronics or better CGI. The kangaroos' appearances were more along the line of what would be expected in a cartoon or all-animated movie. (00:01:00)
Character mistake: When Bianca's mother leaves the room Bianca says "I'll give you three more seconds to come back" and counts on her finger but she counts backwards starting with one finger, then two then three shown as she says "three, two one." Plot hole: Kyle got a flat tire and there was no cell phone reception to call for help, so he and Julia decided to walk to the Ghost Town. However, almost all vehicles - especially a relatively new SUV like Kyle's - have a spare tire. Kyle surely had a spare and could have at least tried to change the tire himself. (When Kyle saw his damaged tire, he complained that it was a $300 loss, not that he did not have a spare tire with him). (00:04:55)
Revealing mistake: There was already a gap in the snow mounds (which looked like a snow sledding path with no fresh tracks) when the "kid" was sledding down the steep hill. (00:02:40)
Continuity mistake: The white gift box was placed on the car's hood near the passenger side front wheel indentation. When the female cop (Valerie) turned around, the box was at an angle, not parallel, to the indentation. (00:02:21)
Other mistake: Grace Lewis shot a man in the head when he was standing less than three feet from her, but Grace did not get any blood splatter on her face or elsewhere. Neither did George Clements, who was standing near both of them. (01:15:03)
Continuity mistake: The amount of red beverage in June's bottle changes several times, from up to the curved part of the plastic bottle (lower amount) to below the neck and up to the neck (almost full). Front views of Mikey show the level of the drink higher than views toward June. (00:17:07 - 00:18:51)
Factual error: At the end of the film, Hellfire Jack returns the toy soldier to the son of the late William Hawkins in 1917. Hawkins son is shown taking it upstairs and placing it in front of a photo of his father, in between two medals. These are the British War and Victory Medals - these did not exist until 1919, and in most cases were not even issued until the 1920's.
Plot hole: Diabolik blinks in Morse code to his accomplice the location of one of his hidden stashes. He says it's in 'the third brick to the left' and the street name, but no address or other reference. She (who previously knew nothing about the location) finds it immediately. It's worth noting that the movie is a faithful adaptation of a couple issues of the comic, but this bit of subplot is a fresh addition and the original hiding spot in the 1963 issue was a plausible one (cave behind a specific waterfall).
Continuity mistake: In the opening scene, the players are taking their third card of the hand before the dealer reveals their second card. (00:02:40 - 00:03:15)
Suggested correction: That's not what happened. It was a montage scene. It's not 3 different players, it's the same player and 3 different hands. Notice the card is always dealt to the same spot.
Factual error: When Sharyn woke up after surgery, she did not know how long she had been there, but her abdominal scar was practically healed. Under these circumstances, she should have had a urinary catheter but did not. Also, when Sharyn lifted her gown to look at the scar, she was wearing bikini-like lace-trimmed navy blue underwear - it is unlikely anyone would have put such underwear on her after surgery. Continuity mistake: When Hagmaier is in the Florida State Prison room waiting for Bundy, his hair changes. Initially, his short bangs are straight across the middle of his forehead. When Bundy sits down, Hagmaier's bangs and top of head are "fluffier" (perhaps blown dry) and combed to the side. (00:11:05)
Factual error: The movie largely takes place in California during the 1990s. California's mandatory seat belt law went into effect 1/01/86. When Mickey was driving Kyd to the cemetery, they were not wearing seat belts. Also, Kyd was 8 years old at the time. Although legally permitted to ride in the front, it is advised that kids sit in the back seat for safety. Considering Lyla was recently killed when a driver ran a stop sign, Mickey should have been more concerned for Kyd's safety as a passenger. (01:12:58 - 01:15:05)
