Continuity mistake: Xiao Meng spent some time wrapping her father's (Professor Tao) left hand, going around his wrist/thumb and under his thumb (diagonally across his palm). When Tao was blown off the bridge and landed in the dirt, the bandage was NOT wrapped around his thumb (just around his wrist). (01:12:33 - 01:16:03)
Other mistake: Glen/Charlie poured gasoline all over the vehicle he killed Sandra in - including its soft convertible top - but the flames stayed around the car's perimeter. (00:50:54 - 00:51:26)
Continuity mistake: The way Linda holds her coffee cup changes numerous times, often instantly with front versus rear views. The handle switches (changes 90° or 180°) from facing towards her chest to her left knee to opposite her chest while holding the cup between her bent knees, which vary in distance apart. The cup is held a few inches above, below, or about even with her kneecaps. (00:44:35 - 00:48:23)
Continuity mistake: The amount of blood on 10-year-old Miguel's face and neck after his "jump in" is not consistent. Sometimes there is more (or less) blood on his cheeks and neck and sometimes it appears splattered compared to large areas diluted with blood. The intensity/color of the blood also changes - sometimes it is very red but other times it is paler. The cut on his left eyebrow apparently was not on the far left corner yet sometimes the blood started there; other times, the blood started almost to the middle of his eyebrow. Sometimes he has blood below his eyebrow. Despite all the blood on his face and neck (down to the sagging T-shirt), there is no blood on his white or light grey T-shirt. He also does not get any blood on his jacket. Miguel was repeatedly punched then kicked by several large, muscular adult gang members for 13 seconds (to become a member of the MS-13 gang) but is unrealistically able to get right up then go and pick up and carry his dog - with no limping or signs of pain. (00:29:15)
Factual error: The film states that the story takes place in the year 1998. Everything in the opening scenes crams in every 90's cliché imaginable to reinforce the era. However, at 1m56s into the movie, the main character is driving on the freeway and it cuts to a shot showing that he's driving behind a marked police car. Specifically, a Police Interceptor model Ford Explorer that did not hit the market until 2012. (00:01:56)
Continuity mistake: After the cartoon segment, Deni entertains some playful banter with his girlfriend and takes off, putting a shirt on while he runs. When the neighbour asks him "Late again?", the guitar strap is on opposite sides of the instrument as the editing switches to a reverse shot. (00:06:40)
Visible crew/equipment: As the camera moves forward in the opening shot, a clear reflection of a film light can be seen on the side of the fire engine.
Continuity mistake: Enzo's red tag hanging from his collar usually can be seen, but he did not appear to be wearing the red tag outside when Eve told Denny she was pregnant or when sitting in the bleachers with Eve at a race. (00:19:48 - 00:21:09)
Continuity mistake: During Stella and Will's walk, Will's scarf was consistently wrapped one time around his neck, but the length of his scarf on either side varied. The right side was usually much longer than the left side, but the ends were about even other times. When Will was lying in the snow, the scarf ends were almost equal (reaching about half-way down his coat); when he stood up, the ends were far apart. After he fell in the snow, Will got up and adjusted the scarf ends to be about the same in length. (01:25:35 - 01:29:30)
Continuity mistake: When Aunt Sarah arrives, she dumps her luggage in the hands of Jim and then passes him to his right, leaving him between herself and the door. In the reverse shot, Jim is on the opposite side. (00:29:15)
Factual error: During the opening credits, Alec Baldwin and Selma Hayek are driving back to New York. They pass by various buildings, one shot being entirely devoted to a dilapidated Blockbuster video store. That shot must have been archive footage from the UK, since you can see the realtor sign by it, and it's from Carter Jonas, a London based firm, and gives an 01962 phone number (Windsor).
Factual error: At presentation of the Medal of Honor, the US Air Force Secretary reads the citation that states William H. Pitsenbarger was an Airman First Class (E-3 with 2 stripes) but in the battle scenes William H. Pitsenbarger is wearing the insignia of a 'Buck' Sergeant (E-4 with 3 stripes). (00:14:29 - 01:43:55)
Continuity mistake: His pickup truck windows are down during the car chase but once the pickup submerges in water the windows are miraculously up, giving him a chance to escape. (01:21:30 - 01:29:00)
Factual error: Russell said he served twenty-one years in prison because his last offense - possession of 30 grams of marijuana with the intent to distribute - counted as his "third strike" under California's "Three Strikes And You're Out" statute. When he was on the internet trying to locate his father (instead finding his obituary from 2001), information on the computer indicated it was now 2012. This would mean Russell was incarcerated since 1991 - and further indicates he was sentenced about three years BEFORE California's "Three Strikes And You're Out" statute was implemented. Also, 30g of marijuana is the limit for "personal use", so he wouldn't have been charged with intent to distribute. (00:16:15)
Continuity mistake: The location and intensity of Lavinia's purple hair highlights vary throughout the movie. For example, the purple highlights on the right side were far more pronounced (two wide, distinct, vivid lines) when she got home compared to when she first met Ward. Lavinia rode her horse Comet home, so her hair would have been wind-blown and the highlights would not have been likely to be neatly straight down, especially since she has long curly hair. (00:05:10 - 00:07:13)
Other mistake: Elsa Brecht is holding an official piece of mail sent from the Coconut Grove Hotel in Miami but it's postmarked Orlando, Florida. There's no legitimate reason the mail would be postmarked Orlando when Orlando is 235 miles from Miami. (01:24:16)
Other mistake: Throughout this, a running gag is that Fred can't drive stick/clutch. However, in "What's New, Scooby-Doo?" Series 2, Episode 6 "A Scooby-Doo Halloween," he yells at Shaggy that he's riding the clutch too hard at the beginning of the episode. If the Mystery Machine has a clutch mechanism, he would know how to drive stick/clutch.
Factual error: Attorney Aegis inappropriately rounded up/down a couple common statistics pertaining to the infamous Ford Pinto case, which resulted in a total that didn't add up: "it would cost the company $11 per Pinto to fix the problem. But with 12 million [should be 12.5] of 'em on the road, that would cost $137 million compared with $50 million [should be 49.5] to maintain the status quo. $137 million to fix a $50 million problem..." But 12 million x $11 = $132 million [not $137 million]. (00:24:38)
Continuity mistake: Sira pours Sprite into a glass until it is about three-fourths full, but the glass is closer to half-full when he hands it to his mother. (00:02:00)
Continuity mistake: In a flashback inside a pub, the protagonist writes his number on a coaster to hit on the waitress. During the scene, the coaster changes position repeatedly between shots. (00:25:55)
