Monk

Mr. Monk and the Three Pies - S2-E11

Factual error: In this episode, when Sharona and Monk arrive to visit his brother, they talk about the swing set. Monk tells Sharona that his father put up the swing when he was 8 years old but this is a much newer swing set. Look at the curved plastic seats: these have come about in the last six to eight years. It also doesn't look at all rusty like a 40 year old swing would.

Suggested correction: Ambrose is obsessed with leaving the place "exactly the way dad left it for when he comes back." Hoarding old newspapers for him would be a character mistake, but things like keeping the old swingset maintained and up to current safety regulations so everything's perfect "when he returns" would be a thing he'd find to do around the house. His agoraphobia might not be so bad in the yard. Alternately, he could pay someone for yard upkeep, which would include the swingset.

Mr. Monk and the Astronaut - S4-E14

Factual error: During their examination of the crime scene, neither Monk, Stottlemyer, Sherona, Randy or anyone else in the room wear gloves or any kind of other protective clothing. They handle artefacts that could be critical to an investigation of the woman's death, including a cheque made out to her, and they hopelessly contaminate them by doing so.

Mr. Monk and the Airplane - S1-E13

Factual error: When the flight attendant announces that "they have been asked to return to the gate" the French pilot and his mistress are already celebrating with a glass of wine, but that is impossible since drinks are only served after the take off phase when the plane has reached its traveling altitude. Mr. Monk and the Three Julies - S6-E13

Factual error: Monk deflects the policeman's rifle shot and the bullet hits Stottlemeyer's car. But the gun fires just as Monk pushes it aside, and the car is behind them. There's nothing that could deflect the bullet back toward them, so at that angle, there's no way the shot could have struck the car. (00:35:50)

Mr. Monk Gets Fired - S3-E4

Factual error: As Monk is removing the crumbs off the keyboard, he flicks one crumb away from the backspace key. It gets flicked up and lands near the 0 button on the numeric keypad. Yet when this happens, the screen then says "Do you want to delete files?" as if he hit the delete button.

Mr. Monk Is Up All Night - S6-E9

Factual error: [SPOILER ALERT] At the end of the episode, it is revealed that the mysterious cab driver had corneal transplants to repair damage to her vision from Retinitis Pigmentosa. RP is a defect of the retina, in the back of the eye, which accumulates pigment, losing its photoreceptivity, resulting in vision loss. A corneal transplant will not restore vision to someone with RP.

Mr. Monk and the Garbage Strike - S5-E2

Factual error: The newspaper with the front page headline about Jimmy Cusack's death comes out the same morning that he is found dead. In reality, since it's said later that the cleaning crew found his body around 7:00 AM, it would be way too late for his death to have appeared in that same morning's edition of the San Francisco Chronicle. It would more likely appear in the next day's paper, by which time Monk had found out that Cusack had been murdered. (00:05:05)

Mr. Monk and the Naked Man - S6-E3

Factual error: While the police are investigating the murder at the start of the episode, the police make numerous mistakes with the crime scene. First there is no sheet over the body and/or tent to cover the body. Being they are on a beach it would make sense to cover the body from any debris or sand disturbing the body. Second, the sun is shining brightly would not help with preserving the body for the coroner. Finally why have the police only cordoned off a small area around the body. Being a crime scene and potential evidence could be found it makes little sense why they wouldn't cordon off the beach or most of it from the public.

Mr. Monk Gets Jury Duty - S4-E16

Factual error: Since Monk has OCD it would be highly unlikely for him to be on a jury. Plus, Monk works for the police department and since he technically works in the criminal justice system, that would have made him exempt from jury duty.

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: First, he would have to ask for exemption in writing prior to serving, with proof, regarding hardship for his OCD. While it's possible his doctor might say serving jury duty would result in physical harm due to his mental illness, it's unlikely to be given by Dr. Kroger. And Monk is not an active peace officer, so that wouldn't earn him an exception.

Mr. Monk and the Really, Really Dead Guy - S5-E15

Factual error: In real life, the FBI does not have jurisdiction over routine homicide cases, which are almost always left to the local police. They have no jurisdiction over serial murder at all, unless a federal employee is a victim or one of the murders gets committed on federal property (like an army base, federal prison or national park, or on sovereign territory like a reservation). The only time the FBI would be involved in a homicide is if the individual crossed state lines in committing the crime.

Mr. Monk and the Big Game - S5-E3

Factual error: The hair dryer would not have hurt anyone as it was plugged into a FCI outlet. These outlets will immediately sense the interruption and cut the power to ensure electrical safety. The coach would have been alive. (00:02:23)

Suggested correction: You mean a GFCI outlet, but they specifically mentioned the outlet. Natalie points it out, basically saying shouldn't it have prevented the coach being shocked and Monk suspects it was tampered with. Later Disher says it was defective.

Mr. Monk Gets Married - S2-E15

Factual error: Disher gets the armoire open and recoils from the smell of the dead body inside, despite it being wrapped in plastic. But he somehow didn't smell it before getting the door open, despite it providing hardly any protection from a smell like that.

Jon Sandys

Mr. Monk Goes to Jail - S2-E16

Factual error: Death row prisoners cannot donate organs. No doctor participates in an execution and after the lethal injection the medical examiner must wait at least fifteen minutes to test for cardiac activity before pronouncing the prisoner dead. This is enough time for hypoxia to render the heart, lungs and kidneys useless for transplant. Apart from this, organs intended for transplant must be removed within minutes of the death of the donor. Prisoners are not executed in operating theatres.

Mr. Monk and the Garbage Strike - S5-E2

Question: Why would it have been political suicide if it was discovered that Mayor Nicholson was secretly meeting with Cusack to end the garbage strike? If anything, if the people found out that they were meeting to find a way to end the garbage strike, wouldn't that have made everybody happy considering how much garbage was piling up all over the city?

Answer: The two men are trying to work out a secret deal between them without involving the union, which means the workers' interests aren't being represented and defeats the whole purpose of a union. The mayor would lose labor's support and Cusack's union troubles would just be starting.
