Factual error: Thurlow tries to blackmail Fox by showing him evidence that the Prince of Wales has illegally married Maria Fitzherbert. In reality, Fox - who had been kept in the dark by the Prince - learned the truth about the marriage in 1787, the year before the film's action begins.

Continuity mistake: The Black Stallion was played by a horse with white markings; it's occasionally possible to see them under the black dye, especially during the desert scenes.

Factual error: The toy horse on Alec's shelf is a 64 Black Foundation Stallion, available from Breyer between 1977-1987. But the film is set over thirty years earlier.

Factual error: The film strongly implies that John Dudley, the Duke of Northumberland, keeps his head (literally) by converting to Catholicism. In fact, he was executed well before Lady Jane Grey was.
