Fast Times at Ridgemont High

Question: Based on the answer on the above submitted question about the song difference between the movie release and the home video/DVD version, I was wondering what song title/artist was played on the home video/DVD version during the swimming pool scene where Damone pushes Mark into the pool. I know the original release played Never Surrender by Don Felder during that scene, but looking for the other song info from the other version. Does anyone know it?

Question: How does Stacy give Guy 5 cent change if his total is $1.10? Did he have a 15 cent piece?

Answer: This could be considered a mistake. Some people say the pizza cost $1.05, and he gave her $1.10, with 5 cents back. But if you watch the register, she rings up $1.10 before he hands her the money and then it shows $0.05. It seems this part wasn't in the script, so was added as filler and some of the sequence is slightly off.

Answer: Three quarters and four dimes would make it correct.

Greg Dwyer

But you can see that there is a dollar bill in the transaction - check the " mistakes" on this forum for the discussion. Your theory would be correct, had the dollar bill not been shown.

His bill was $1.05 and he gave her $1.10 so his change was a nickel.

No, his bill is 1.10. Stacey even says " that'll be 1.10"

ckbyers

Answer: She's acknowledging how much the guy gives her, not how much the pizza cost. She says "1.10" and then gives him 5 cents back, because the pizza likely costs $1.05.

Question: Why did Mr. Hand rip up Spicoli's card and then send him to the front office? Aside from being late, he didn't really do anything that could be considered "out of line."

Answer: As a teacher myself, you learn to be able to recognize "problem" students fairly quickly (those that are going to be disruptive, late, etc on a regular basis). Mr. Hand is simply overly strict in regards to Spicoli unexcused tardy and seems not to allow students into class late, thus earning the student an absent. Mr. Hand does say he "will make you" attend his class. In addition, Spicoli was high and, in Mr. Hand's mind, disrespectful (Spicoli said "hey I know that kid" while they were talking) so Mr. Hand showed Spicoli disrespect in return as a way to teach him a lesson.

Question: When the movie first came out, there was a whole different song playing near the end when Mark and Stacy see each other in the mall. In more recent years, "So In Love" is the song playing whenever this scene is shown. Why did the music change over the years? (I believe the song is different now in the swimming pool scene when Mike and Mark go into the pool from what I remember too). Anyone agree with this or have an explanation?

Answer: From what I can gather, "So Much in Love" by Timothy B. Schmit was in the original release of the film, but due to licensing rights issues, home video and cable TV versions of the film replaced this and two or three other tracks. For the 1999 DVD release, the rights seem to have been renewed and the soundtrack matches the original theatrical release.

Answer: Nicolas Cage or as he's credited in the cast, Nicholas Coppola.

This is incorrect. Nicolas Cage plays one of Brad's friends and co-worker. The third stoner buddy was played by Anthony Edwards.

Continuity mistake: When Brad Hamilton is pouring the coffee in the machine at the Mi-T-Mart, there is a clock on the wall next to the battery display, but when the guy comes in to rob the place, the clock is gone and there is a Hostess Fruit Pie poster there now. (01:23:00)

Trivia: The pretty girl in the corvette that pulls up next to Hamilton, when he is wearing the Pirate uniform, is Nancy Wilson of the rock band Heart. At the time Wilson was dating Cameron Crowe, who wrote the film's screenplay, and later got married.
