The remaining people in the Wild Bunch are Pike (Holden), Dutch (Borgnine), Lyle (Oates) and Tector (Johnson). They all walk together into a Mexican compound to retreive Angel (Sanchez) who has been taken hostage. One of the drunken Mexican soldiers cuts Angel's throat and is then shot by Pike. A short and awkward silence is followed, as the Wild Bunch stands between hundreds of armed Mexican soldiers. Pike shoots a soldier, and triggers a massive shootout. They comandeer a machine gun which wipes out a lot of the Mexicans. All of the Wild Bunch are eventually shot dead. Thornton (Ryan) and his goons arrive at the compound and find the bodies of the Wild Bunch and hundreds of Mexican soldiers. Deke's goons ride off without him but are killed by Sykes' (O'Brien) new crew. He offers Thornton an opportunity to ride along with them. He accepts.

Continuity mistake: Sykes is shot in the right leg, in the thigh area, by the bounty hunters. We see the blood clearly on it when he sits on a rock and holds his leg. Later, when he returns to Aquaverde where he meets Robert Ryan, we see as he sits on his horse that his left leg is bandaged.
