Ready Player One

The third and final challenge involves getting to Planet Doom and beating "Adventure", OASIS co-creator James Halliday's favourite game for the Atari 2600, housed in a castle protected by a forcefield. Other players help Parzival attack the forces protecting it, and Art3mis deactivates the forcefield, but a bomb is triggered by Sorrento, killing all the avatars on the planet. Because Parzival had won a coin earlier, he gets an extra life, plays through the game and finds the easter egg, getting the last key.

He's given a contract to sign for his reward by the avatar of Halliday, but he recognises it's the same one the co-creator of OASIS signed, a decision Halliday had regretted taking. He refuses to sign it, and learns that was the final test - Halliday didn't want him to make the same mistakes. Parzival wins the golden egg, and with it control of OASIS. Sorrento is arrested for the bombing of Wade's stack, and Wade runs OASIS with the other "high five" who helped him win. Innovative Online Industries is forced to stop using indentured servants, and the OASIS will be shut down twice a week, forcing people to spend time in reality.

Plot hole: In all scenes where special or heavy items are used against the sixers, they are 'zeroed' in waves or circles. This can be seen by their stations turning red in clusters. This makes no sense as the stations have fixed positions, meaning that the sixers would have identical positions in the Oasis and have no freedom or own will to move relative to each other.

Suggested correction: From a military point of view it makes perfect sense. AOE weapons would be most likely to hit members of the same squads, companies or battalions. It would make sense for squad mates in the oasis to stick together in stations as well. I just watched that scene. As long as the Sixers are trained soldiers or players it makes perfect sense.

Trivia: As Wade is explaining how people lose all their stuff if they die in the OASIS, you see a shot of Sho and Daito on Planet DOOM in a sword fight with Jason Voorhees, the iconic horror/slasher film mascot of the Friday the 13th movie franchise, wielding his trademark machete and wearing the hockey mask. Question: When Sorrento activated the Cataclyst, why didn't i-R0k immediately log out of the oasis by removing his VR Visor like Art3mis did in AECH's shop instead of trying to reach a portal?

Answer: I think on Battleworld it's not that simple, or anyone about to be killed can just log off before it happens. On Battleworld you need to reach a portal to log off. It's basically a PvP area. Aech's shop isn't (safe zone) and you can just simply log off directly there.

Answer: This is something that's answered in the book, but was left out in the film. In PvP areas such as Battleworld, you can't remove your visor to log out, removing your visor just leaves your character open for attack.
