The Notebook

James Gardner and Gena Rowlands (the old people from the trailer) are the older Noah and Allie. Allie's fiancee lets her leave him for Noah, knowing she still loves Noah. In the present day, Older Allie cannot remember anything about their past because she has Alzheimer's. Noah reads their story from a notebook that was written by Allie as a present to Noah. Whenever she remembers the story, she only remembers for 5 minutes, which forces him to read to her constantly. In the end, Allie remembers Noah and they die in their sleep together holding each other's hand. All together now, awwwwwww.......

Other mistake: In one of the beginning scenes, when Noah and Fin are at the fair, you see Allie and Sarah on the bumper cars. Allie bumps into Sarah, and you can see and hear Sarah yell "Rachel," which is actually the name of the actress who plays Allie - Rachel McAdams. (00:05:20)

Trivia: When Noah is driving back to Allie's house after Finn tells him she's left, Noah's car bangs into the fence. This wasn't supposed to happen; it was a mistake made by the actor (Ryan Gosling).

Answer: It's true. According to director, Nick Cassavetes, the two actors did not get along at all and constantly bickered during filming. Things were so bad that during one scene, Gosling wanted Cassavetes to have another actress read McAdams lines off-screen. Gosling and McAdams later overcame their animosity and dated, though their relationship ended after two years.
